The Mecklenburg Bar Association (MBA) is proud to provide innovative and relevant educational programs to its members on a wide variety of topics. The MBA strives to provide CLEs presented by a diverse and broad spectrum of the legal community. As the legal profession evolves, we work to address the changing needs of attorneys across all areas of practice and experience levels, to enhance personal and professional development.
MBA CLEs are planned and presented by MBA members in tandem with the MBA CLE staff team. Our CLEs are designed to help you earn your annual CLE credits while delivering skills, information, and insight to help you grow in your personal and professional lives.
CLE Benefits for MBA Members
Level I CLE Benefits
Discounted Member Rates for all MBA CLEs
6 hours of in person CLEs or webinars included in your membership. (Excludes on-demand CLE. Cannot be used to register for programs that exceed the balance of your available included CLE hours.)
Level II CLE Benefits
Discounted Member Rates for all MBA CLEs
12 hours of in person CLEs or webinars included in your membership. (Excludes on-demand CLE and other CLEs such as the Annual Review and Professionalism for New Attorneys programs. Cannot be used to register for programs that exceed the balance of your available included CLE hours.)
Level III CLE Benefits
Unlimited access to MBA CLEs including in person, webinar and on-demand. Includes the Annual Review and Professionalism for New Attorneys programs.

CLE Requirements
All required CLE hours can be taken online as of January 1, 2020.
As of March 1, 2024, attorneys licensed in North Carolina are required to take 24 hours of CLE approved by the North Carolina State Bar over a 2 year period.
The 24 hour requirement includes:
- One (1) Technology Training Hour
- One (1) Professional Well-Being Hour (formerly Mental Health/Substance Abuse)
- Four (4) Ethics Hours
Lawyers may carry over up to 12 hours of CLE from one reporting period to the next. Hours will carry over as total hours only. Ethics, Technology and PWB hours must be taken every reporting period.
The CLE year runs from March 1 to February 28 with no grace period.
2 Year Reporting Period Exception for 2024 Hours:
- Lawyers with an odd year of admittance (e.g. 2023) will have a one-time 1 year/12 hour requirement to be completed by February 28, 2025
- Lawyers with an even year of admittance will go directly to 2 years/24 hours to be completed by February 28, 2026
Professionalism for New Attorneys CLE Requirement
The Professionalism for New Attorneys CLE is required for all newly licensed attorneys in North Carolina and must be taken during the member's first reporting period. The MBA generally hosts PNA webinars in May and October. More information on PNA requirements can be found here.

On-Demand: CLE programs available 24/7 and mobile friendly
CLE Annual Pass Add-On $450
Annual Pass Benefits:
- Unlimited access to MBA CLEs for the fiscal year in which the pass was purchased (July 1 - June 30). Includes in person, webinar and on-demand programs and costs associated with materials and food/beverage.
- Non-transferable
- The CLE Annual Pass cannot be used for certain programs throughout the year including but not limited to the Annual Review and Professionalism for New Attorneys CLEs.
Mecklenburg Bar Association (MBA) Members:
The MBA CLE Annual Pass is included in Level III MBA Membership ($500) or available as an add-on to other MBA Membership Levels for $450. If you are an MBA member and would like to upgrade your membership or add the Annual Pass, please email mba@meckbar.org.
Non-MBA Members:
