The Mecklenburg County Bar has been serving legal professionals in the Charlotte area since 1912. Our mission is to serve the public and the Bar members in improving and preserving the administration of justice, and to assist the North Carolina State Bar as described by statutory requirements.
On July 1, 2024, the Mecklenburg County Bar bifurcated into two organizations - the mandatory 26th Judicial District Bar (26th JD Bar) and the voluntary Mecklenburg Bar Association (MBA).
The 26th JD Bar is one of 45 Judicial District Bars in the State of North Carolina. Each is a subdivision of the North Carolina State Bar and is governed by Rules and Regulations set forth in Title 27 of the North Carolina Administrative Code, Chapter 1. Every active member of the North Carolina State Bar residing in North Carolina is a member of a district bar. The State Bar makes district bar membership determinations based on the address members have on file with the State Bar, though members may elect to provide either their practice or residential address. Active members of the 26th JD Bar may vote in district bar elections for State Bar Council, judicial vacancies in district court, nominees for Public Defender, and other district bar business.
The Mecklenburg Bar Association is a voluntary Bar with several different membership levels. Sections, Divisions, Committees, CLE, Sports and other member benefits are included with the MBA.
