Register to be a Lunch with a Lawyer Mentor | CMS Volunteer Form
Through a partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), lawyers are able to serve as mentors to eighth graders throughout the school year. Mentors will meet with their mentee at least once a month for lunch to serve as a positive role model and to provide the student with a window into the legal profession. Area principals recommend students from a broad range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds who are considering future legal careers for program participation.
New mentors will need to attend a program orientation to discuss program expectations and to review tips for establishing a beneficial mentoring relationship. Additionally, new volunteer attorneys will be required to submit to a background check before being matched with a CMS student. The program will then host its kick-off luncheon giving students, their parents and school administrators the opportunity to meet with their assigned attorney mentors and hear from community guest speakers. For a list of frequently asked questions and the proposed time commitment, see below.
The MBA has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from lawyers and students who have participated in this program in the past. Many mentor-mentee pairs have formed relationships that will endure for years to come.
