The Mecklenburg County Bar (MCB) has the following fundraising policy:
- The Mecklenburg County Bar Board of Directors (Board) shall approve or disapprove, in its sole discretion, all proposed fundraising efforts, both external and internal, by the Mecklenburg County Bar, Twenty-Sixth Judicial District, or any of its subdivisions (collectively, the MCB). In exercising its discretion to approve any such proposed fundraising efforts, the Board shall consider that it is the intent of this Policy that:
a. The MCB shall be permitted to continue to accept sponsorships and underwriting commitments for specific events, programs and activities of the MCB as has been done successfully in the past;
b. The MCB shall be permitted to accept gifts to support specific events, programs and activities of the MCB from members of the MCB who are participants in such events, programs or activities as has been done successfully in the past;
c. Upon notice to the Board by the Mecklenburg Bar Foundation (MBF) of anticipated MBF fundraising activities, the Board shall afford priority to the MBF’s fundraising activities in considering whether to approve any fundraising efforts of the MCB;
d. The Board shall afford priority to the MCB’s internal fundraising activities in considering whether to approve any fundraising efforts of the MCB; and
e. The Board shall have the discretion to permit fundraising efforts to fund or support any MCB event, program or activity which the Board believes to be consistent with and in furtherance of the mission, goals and purposes of the MCB as may be adopted from time to time by the MCB.
- The Board shall approve or disapprove, in its sole discretion, all requests by the MCB for funds from the MBF. In exercising its discretion to approve any such requests, the Board shall consider that it is the intent of this Policy that:
a. The MCB shall exercise budgetary discipline to fund from dues, operating revenues and fundraising efforts permitted in accordance with paragraph 1 above, all events, programs and activities which the Board believes to be consistent with and in furtherance of the mission, goals and purposes of the MCB as may be adopted from time to time by the MCB.
b. The MBF shall be asked by the MCB to fund only those events, programs and activities which the Board believes to be consistent with and in furtherance of the mission, goals and purposes of the MBF as may be adopted from time to time by the Foundation.
