YLD Committees

The goals of the Mecklenburg Bar Association (MBA) Young Lawyers Division (YLD) are accomplished through the work of established committees.  Please take a moment to consider a volunteer role with the YLD by serving on one or more committees. You must be a member of the MBA YLD to participate on YLD committees.

• MBA Member: Already an MBA member? Email mba@meckbar.org to add the Young Lawyers Division to your membership.

• Newly sworn-in admittee: Receive the first year of MBA Young Lawyers Division membership for free! Each newly-admitted lawyer in Mecklenburg County who is eligible for membership in the MBA Young Lawyers Division will be granted FREE membership in the YLD throughout the fiscal year in which he or she is sworn-in. After your first complimentary year, YLD membership is only $35 annually, making the YLD one of the best and most affordable ways to make connections in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg legal community.

• Law Student: Join the MBA for $50/year! Benefits include a YLD student affiliate membership, MBA Level 1 membership for one year after being admitted to the NC Bar, and discounted member rate for the MBA PNA program after being admitted. Click here to join.

Community Service & Legal Assistance Committee (Matt Gerber and McKenna Fono, Co-Chairs)

Coordinates public service and legal assistance opportunities for YLD members and oversees the Bar’s volunteer outreach opportunities. As an integral part of MBA volunteer opportunities, this committee ensures that all community service projects provide legal assistance to the citizens of Mecklenburg County and/or North Carolina. Such activities include delivering food and items for The Humane Society, Salvation Army Angel Tree, and more.

Education Committee (Anna Hamel, Chair)

Organizes activities that educate the Mecklenburg County community about the law and the MBA as a whole. This includes developing and implementing continuing legal education (CLE) and community outreach ideas.

Membership Committee (Charles Melcombe, Chair)

Focuses on increasing YLD membership and ensuring that the YLD meets the needs of its members. This committee also works with MBA staff to organize the Young Lawyer of the Year Award and the new lawyer swearing-in ceremonies.

Social Committee (Maya Davis, Chair)

Prepares quarterly socials for the YLD Members and provides other events and gatherings which promote the interests of YLD members.
