While the MBA’s inaugural year is coming to an end, its legacy is just getting started. We’ve had an outstanding year filled with significant accomplishments and active engagement from our members. We surpassed our initial membership goals, achieving 223% of our Level 1 projections and 1,040% of our Public Sector membership targets. Our tiered dues structure continues to bring value where you need it most. Whether you are looking for included Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses, section involvement, or legal research resources, there is value to be found at each membership level. Our committees and sections have organized numerous successful events, our CLE programs have been highly impactful, and we continue to partner and connect with our local judiciary. Here are the top seven reasons why renewing your MBA membership will continue to benefit you both professionally and personally:
1. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Our CLE programs are second to none, offering a wide range of topics that keep you at the forefront of legal practice. This year the MBA hosted over 60 CLE courses across a variety of practice areas and currently hosts over 100 programs in our on-demand catalog. MBA members also took advantage of their member benefit included CLE hours, redeeming over 500 hours of in-person/webinar programming for Levels I, II & III members and more than 275 on-demand programs for Level III members.
2. NETWORKING AND COMMUNITY BUILDING
MBA events provide unparalleled local networking opportunities. Whether it’s the Law & Society Gala, section meetings, or informal social gatherings, you’ll connect with peers, mentors, and leaders in the legal field.
3. ACTIVE COMMITTEES AND SECTIONS
Our committees and sections are the heart of the MBA, organizing numerous events and initiatives throughout the year. This year most sections implemented complimentary monthly luncheons as an informal gathering for members to socialize and connect.
4. JUDICIAL PARTNERSHIPS
The MBA continues to cultivate strong relationships with the judiciary, facilitating open dialogue and collaboration. Our members benefit from exclusive insights and opportunities to engage with judges and court officials. This year we hosted a reception with the North Carolina Court of Appeals, multiple CLEs with the Mecklenburg County Clerk of Court, and Courthouse tours.
5. COMMUNITY SERVICE AND PRO BONO OPPORTUNITIES
Giving back is a core value of the MBA. Our members participate in numerous community service projects and pro bono initiatives, making a positive impact on the lives of those in need. Highlights from this year include the Young Lawyers Division Humane Society event and our continued partnership with the North Carolina Bar Foundation and the Charlotte Wills Clinic.
6. RECOGNITION AND AWARDS
The MBA honors the achievements of its members through various awards and recognitions. Your hard work and dedication are greatly appreciated. Congratulations to John Wester, recipient of the Ayscue Professionalism Award; Fred DeVore III, honored with the MBA/MBF Extraordinary Service Award; Akya Rice, awarded the YLD Young Lawyer of the Year; and Joie Johnston, winner of the MBA Pro Bono Award Outstanding Individual Attorney.
7. MENTORSHIP PROGRAMS
Our mentorship programs connect experienced attorneys with those new to the profession, fostering a supportive environment for growth and development. Whether you’re seeking guidance or looking to give back, there’s a place for you. Renewing your MBA membership means continuing to be part of a dynamic and supportive community that is dedicated to your success. We look forward to another year of growth, collaboration, and excellence together.
